Maybe I'll have some luck here: Twitter, what natural ingredients could one use to dye their hair brown that would wash out extremely easily? A method that would sound legit for someone a few hundred years ago with very little money.

Oooooo would this just be mixed with water to make a paste? Or with animal fat or something?

oOooh this came up on google when I tried to dig http://www.webexhibits.org/pigments/intro/early.html … I was thinking like an ancient umber pigment technique would make sense. Apparently there's hella ways to thin, thicken, and bind it to things!!
