Screenwriting portfolio (or equivalent dramatic story writing chops), good interpersonal skills, design literacy and awareness of adjacent disciplines. Published/produced/shipped works are a plus, but not always required.

I hired my fair share at Telltale. Let's see.
Experience in design, or any discipline that mandated direct contact with players and feedback. Ability to quickly pivot to a new version of a story beat or character. -
Genre and tone-- not just definitions but actual usage to modify or focus story. But most of all, an outside and demonstrable interest in Psychology, Theater, and/or History.
