Can you expand on this a little more? Specifically, what you mean by expand. Is this rewriting, fleshing out from minimal detail into greater detail, etc? You mentioned that you often write first in script form — is this about moving from script to prose?

‘Prepare my paints’ is really what it is. In my writing I always throw out the first few paragraphs after hitting the proper tone for the work - those first paragraphs are always only a primer for what comes next.
Yup. It really is like painting. Your first draft is the broad strokes that cover your canvas and create a foundation for what to come. Every draft builds layer upon layer and adds to the intricacy. And then you do those finicky little edits and those are your tiny brushstrokes.
