Yup, and in retrospect it seems like what I had to say was largely right. Nevertheless, I learned to pipe down, or at least not to persist if people didn’t initially see my point. Then the folks at my next job were like... why are you speaking up more? We want your opinion!

Yup. It’s easy to overcorrect, though I’ve been forced to conclude that I can never “bring my whole self” to work. You can come back from being too quiet, but not from being too intimidating.

Maybe just not in that place

In my current studio I’m the only representative of my discipline. On one hand, that means I have something different and unique to bring to the table. On the other, it means that if I don’t represent the interests of narrative, they stand to get overlooked.
