In releasing Drogon, Jon has chosen not to assume his kingmaker heritage – he never wanted to be part of the game (of thrones), so the name ‘Targaryen’ doesn’t give him an identity. He is already Snow, a bastard of the north.pic.twitter.com/46qvcBJ6dc

Later, when the ash settles and a new monarch is called for, Jon kneels as he did for the Night's Watch. ‘I pledged to protect you, but I am not your King.’ Sansa is appointed Queen of Westeros with the support of the major houses and the Free Folk.pic.twitter.com/gNThgIIu0W

Since the Wall isn’t strictly necessary anymore and the Night's Watch has disbanded, Sansa appoints Jon Warden of the North.pic.twitter.com/aqCud5PDy8

Tyrion pledges to serve Sansa if she’ll have him; they trust one another and rule closely, tempering one another’s weaknesses – Tyrion’s optimism (as shown by him trusting Cersei/Jaime in previous episodes), Sansa’s suspicion and mistrust of people.pic.twitter.com/gvKzg9M1wK

(They probably don’t marry since, narratively speaking, this would give Cersei a way to get in again with her new Tyrion baby (see previous thread).)

Arya learns to let go of her vengeance, realising it’s more important to work on building a better future than try to atone for the past. She takes Varys’s place in the new kingdom.

I love this, except I don’t see Dany killing Jon, despite everything. Only if she genuinely thought he was going for her throne. Also Cersei always said she would rather die than be captured; I reckon she’d drink the Tears of Lys just before Jamie makes it to her.

ToL would also make sense, since I don't imagine she thought Jaime was coming. So basically we're finding that SO MANY OTHER PLOTS would have made more sense

I reckon they got too hung up on trying to do something the audience wouldn’t expect, and we were expecting, well... something satisfying.

Or maybe like... GRRM didn’t want the show to spoil the books and wanted the books to be better, so he gave them false (crappier) info about the ending

The books have got to be pretty different anyway because it explicitly cites way more prophecies that didn’t come true in the show and you’ve got the whole matter of other Aegon... where does he fit in?

I've not actually read the books, but am wanting to more and more. Soon.
