Similar thing here. I was never the angry type. Then some bad stuff happened a year ago, and since then I’ve really struggled with my temper, particularly with people who seem eager to please and impress. Perhaps because I see something of me in them.

I often find that the things that annoy me most in others are traits/behaviours I too possess, and they’re often the ones I’m most ashamed of. Seeing them reflected back at me is a reminder. I think that’s difficult.

May not be what’s going on with you, but even just being aware of it is helpful, and makes it easier not to act on your feelings. I don’t think there’s an easy answer; patience is easier said than done.

It’s natural to struggle with it. I think the key is to be kindly introspective; if you accept those things about yourself, you’ll slowly start accepting them in others. In the meantime, for me it’s been about learning to bite my tongue and use coping techniques to calm down.

Sounds like the key here is to learn to think of hem as you would someone with any other illness — with empathy, though it sounds like you’re aware of that, and your frustration is that you’re finding that difficult. Do you find you can empathise with your past self?

I almost see it as a similar thing. It’s hard to recover, and this is also hard. I wonder if it’s possible to draw upon your current difficulties and think ‘that’s how hard it is for them to get to where I am’? Failing that, the ‘do nice things for them’ thing I mentioned helps.
