I'm usually well out of 'whatever's going on' by the time I receive these letters, and I sit there reading, smiling to myself, and thinking, 'You'll be okay, chick'. And next time I write a letter, I remember thinking this, and feeling like this, and it helps a little.
Sometimes you have to blindly trust your future self that everything went okay for them in the end, and you just need to keep getting through today to reach where they are. This works for me in any case; maybe it will help you, too?
It's great! I'm transferring my emails to a new address and I found a bunch from way back in 2013. I used to send them to myself all the time (uni was rough), and I still get ones from back then every year or so.
