The parade had almost caught up to her.
The horns' calls swelled, crushing her ability to hear footsteps - were they getting closer or was she finally ahead of them?
The only safe bet was to keep moving.
She meandered through the park, then snuck off down an alley. After some time she was out of breath so she stopped. "Must have lost them by now," she thought to herself "I'd better..." But before she could complete the thought, the sound came again. The parade was following her.
Panicking, she looked about. Pushed up against the wall was a skip, and above that a fire escape stairwell that led to the roof. Ahead of her was a wire mesh fence. Tall, but scalable, and there was more path on the other side. In front of her was a sewer hole.
