Of course, but like I said some games are meant to be a certain level of difficulty that the devs chose, it may be easy to you or hard to me.

And why can’t that level of difficulty be relative? Furthermore, what do you imagine the devs gain from making the game inaccessible to many players as opposed to what they’d gain by opening it up to them?

I only want to comment on this because Bungie alienated their core base and pushed them to other online shooters. From Software can alienate their fan base by catering to the general public

Let’s say that From actually does implement a difficulty setting. People who casually play their games will advance farther and faster than the core players.

And that’s fine and all, except that In Bloodborne, other players could assist others through the online features. That gets difficult to do if everyone is playing on a varying levels of difficulty

There’s no need for people to feel alienated if their experience is not changing. It should still be marketed as a challenging game, but players should be able to opt into a different tier of difficulty. Perhaps a system whereby you can only help others in the same tier?

True, and I understand the perspective. I just assume that a lot of the “experience” is part of “I’m going to look this area up online and hopefully find something helpful” as opposed to watching someone like Pewdiepie just wreck his way through Sekiro

I think the easy solution there is to put in exactly the same search term as you usually would + “hard/standard mode” which I don’t think should be too destructive, and it definitely a small price to pay for inclusivity

Right. However, I assume that people inherently will default to something “easier” and although that benefits the average video game player, it possibly deviates from the gameplay experience that From intentionally wanted for all of their players.

For example, I’m struggling through Herata estate w/ the shinobi hunter. Eventually, I would rather scale down the difficulty just to advance through the game, but I know I rob myself of the satisfaction of beating him on his default setting.

People typically play FromSoft games because they want a challenge. I imagine if they’re playing for that reason, they will keep the difficulty high. There’s a strong sense of pride and prestige associated with harder difficulties.
