But it literally can be? Devs are not infallible. And I say that as someone who designs games.

Difficulty options aren't necessarily something every dev wants in their game. It's a design decision that not every developer should have to use. Many games are created with one difficulty in mind. 1/2

Yoshi for example is a relatively easy game, they designed it that way to appeal to kids or families for the most part. Dark Souls is relatively challenging, that's because they are primarily targeting the "hardcore" gamer demographic. 2/2

You can have that demographic and then some. Those who consider themselves “hardcore gamers” already discern prestige from playing on the hardest mode.

Okay, sorry I just wanted to make sure. I think we pretty much understand each other's views on this and that we pretty much both agree difficulty options are good. The only thing we disagree on is whether or not we should have them in every game.
