Personally, it's more that so much writing, especially in fantasy, is male-dominated, and I'd like to see an equal amount of prominent male and female characters to represent the world as it actually is: full of dynamic, brilliant people of all genders, sexualities, races, etc.

So often in fantasy it's one of these two scenarios: 1. The leads/most well-written and developed characters are men, and there are maybe a few 2D women supporting them 2. The lead is female, but everyone else is male, and she's treated as something of an oddity

There's a degree to which I agree with the 'if it makes sense then fine' thing, but also I'd be more interested in reading work where the author hasn't penned themselves in to writing only about men by merit of their premise -- where the premise is inclusive from the get go
