Keep it. It may be ‘incorrect’, but what you wrote is how most people use it, and that’s language change in progress. What most people understand to be true and use SHOULD be correct. Rules fall out of fashion and become arbitrary; we shouldn’t get so anal about saving them.

I’m so torn on that argument. I like the egalitarian side of it and understand that pedantry can be a cover for absurd snobbery. But I also love the connections to history, past practices, etc that can be uncovered by looking closely at idioms. That said... 1/2

I see your point! Thankfully the evolution of words and their various forms are recorded in their etymologies. I personally find it just as interesting to see those versions and analyse how they came about as I do reading about their starting points. Nothing is lost
