Spaces after ellipses? 1. I use spaces both for mid-sentence pauses... and to trail off at the ends of sentences... I’m not a monster! 2. I use spaces...but only if I’ve finished the sentence... I’m not a monster!

That’s a fair point re: not everyone understanding! And I’m interested that you find it visually distracting... I feel the same about the first option! I always get distracted from reading to check whether I should be starting a new sentence or not.
Not to mention because it’s 50/50 whether the next word will be capitalised!

Another thought: isn’t it more likely that someone would be unable to tell the difference in the former’s case — because they potentially can’t tell when it’s starting a new sentence or not?

Hmmm that's a good point, and my only thinking against it is that we don't have a standardized way to treat ellipses in these situations so a quick reader who sees two syntactical treatments of an ellipse without prior knowledge of this rule might be confused
