I mean... it doesn't matter why they're upset, you try to provide some comfort for them anyway. For all people in all cases. Because someone is hurting and making them feel better is (usually) easy. Like... what kind of person *wouldn't* do that? It costs nothing!

That’s what I think, too. I was always taught that this stuff was unconditional. Though it seems the counter argument is “pandering to imaginary stuff won’t make them stronger”.
