“Hey, I know you’re already covering for your nonexistent boss, but the role you want has come up. Can you do it as well for free, just for a little while, just while we arrange to formalise it?”

Six months later, when struggling to juggle all three roles has destroyed my mental health: “Yeah so we’re happy to just keep things as they are with you working all three roles with the same old job title and salary. That OK your end?”

This happened to me in my teaching job, except I was covering my retired boss AND my stoned co-worker who would never call in to let us know he wouldn't be there, so surprise double shifts almost everyday or every other day for 2months. Never got the job I was doing, finally quit
