Bonus content! After the six months of three jobs were up, we have end of year reviews: “Yeah, but it wasn’t THAT much extra work, was it?” <— boss of yore, explaining why I got a 3/5, which directly corresponded to yearly bonus grades.
Boss of yore, if you read this... you’re not a bad person, but you need to get better at standing up for your employees and keeping promises in the face of senior management. Please just do better with the next person.

I have to disagree. Boss of yore is DEFINITELY a bad person.

Calling someone a bad person feels very final. It gives people an excuse to settle for the label and play into it. Reserving judgement, I feel, makes it more likely that they’ll try to change and be better for the next person.

Lastly, in the spirit of all this crunch rhetoric: The time said boss gave me two weeks worth of work to do in just a few days because of a mistake THEY had made. I tried to fight back and stand up for myself. I fed back after that it was unfair and irresponsible. No change.

I used to think this. These days I think we need to start revising what we think of as 'a bad person'. After a few of these incidents, it's hard not to see their ignorance as wilful.
