Apparently unpopular opinion (?!):
Having a BAME actress portray Ciri (or any other character) in Netflix's adaptation of #theWitcher would not detract from the quality of the story at all, but actually stands to add to it.
I'd personally love to see a BAME Yennefer.

While i dont care about that cuz im mostlikely not going to watch it. I dont like the Double Standard, because if that was a BAME Ciri and they made her white, everyone would go crazy. Like as for fictional characters, do as you like, aslong as you dont make it a double standard.

TBF, the entertainment industry is saturated with white characters, so when a white person is cast in a BAME role, it just makes that even more off-balance. I'd personally like to see the industry being more representative of the world as it is, with all different ethnicities etc

Also, bear in mind that this is 1) an adaptation and 2) fiction. The showrunners have as much creative agency as they like; they're not bound to stay true to the original. When you adapt something, you make it your own.

The Witcher is *inspired* by Slavic folklore, having been written by a Polish author. I've actually had to do a fair bit of research into Slavic mythology and folklore and the Witcher is quite different. I'm afraid it is 'mere fiction'. And an adaptation is exactly what it is.
