Can we please dispell the myth that adaptation = translation? Adaptation doesn't mean transposing a story onto a different medium exactly as you found it. It can, but it doesn't have to. It's the chance to reimagine the IP and make it your own, for better or worse!
Many stories don't do well in a different medium and require some tweaking in order to work; it's the ones that plough on regardless that fail horribly. Once you take on a project for adaptation, it's yours. Your version. You have creative agency, so do with it what you will.
