Apparently unpopular opinion (?!):
Having a BAME actress portray Ciri (or any other character) in Netflix's adaptation of #theWitcher would not detract from the quality of the story at all, but actually stands to add to it.
I'd personally love to see a BAME Yennefer.
Lots of people asking why, so: From where I'm standing, the Witcher IP has always been about exploring these kinds of themes. Both the books and the games delve deep into topics such as morality, ethics, racism, mental health, abuse, war, the environment, politics... etc.
For me, having a BAME cast seems a fair next step. This is @LHissrich's opportunity to reimagine that world and make it her own, which is what adaptation is all about. In my eyes, it's just the next evolutionary stage for the IP -- living out those themes in its cast.
I want to hear your POV because you're a professional writer, how would a BAME Ciri potentially stand to add to the story? I actually liked how (at least in the games) Ciri and Geralt looked so much alike.
I liked that too, actually! Had a bit of Yennefer in her, too, which worked for my own personal Yennefer = canon beliefs ;) But as I said, I believe that a BAME cast would be reflective of the metanarrative. It's an inherently political IP; topics such as racism are explored...
