Apparently unpopular opinion (?!):
Having a BAME actress portray Ciri (or any other character) in Netflix's adaptation of #theWitcher would not detract from the quality of the story at all, but actually stands to add to it.
I'd personally love to see a BAME Yennefer.
Lots of people asking why, so: From where I'm standing, the Witcher IP has always been about exploring these kinds of themes. Both the books and the games delve deep into topics such as morality, ethics, racism, mental health, abuse, war, the environment, politics... etc.
For me, having a BAME cast seems a fair next step. This is @LHissrich's opportunity to reimagine that world and make it her own, which is what adaptation is all about. In my eyes, it's just the next evolutionary stage for the IP -- living out those themes in its cast.
Got to love those opinions that are apparently controversial for some unknown reason. (Spoiler: It's because of bigotry - always)
Genuine question? Why when a white person plays a non white character / historical figure its white washing but when a BAME person plays a white character its "progressive"? It's a bit of a double standard as far as I can see?

Yeah maybe unpopular, I would love to know why you would love that though? I don't see it as empowering for BAME people, I feel like 1 of 2 things, either its forcing identitarian politics on people or it's like saying there are no good BAME characters in fiction so change one.
First, I don't think that calling for more BAME representation means that the quality of what we have is lacking -- just that we want more of it, both to make the industry more representative of our world and to create opportunities for the BAME actors, which are limited atm
Disagree. In any sort of adaptation staying close to the source material is in my opinion the first thing anyone should do. Will be interesting to see what they do, but knowing netflix.. I want the best actress regardless of race, if that’s “bame” I wouldn’t “like” it, but 1/
That’s at least miles better than shoehorning someone in a story, because you just so desperately want to be “multicultural” in a story that isn’t. (I am looking at you troy: fall of a city)
