People who do writing or reviews in regards to gaming - how did you get into it? It’s something I’ve thought about / something I’d like to try for fun but I haven’t the foggiest in how to get started.

I got my foot in the door at a studio as a marketer, then asked for opportunities to contribute writing. I also went to conferences and reached out to people who were where I wanted to be. My network was then able to help refer me for opportunities when I went freelance :)
I used the stuff I wrote for the studio as the basis for my portfolio, but also did a bunch of spec (unsolicited, I commissioned) game scripts etc. Most would recommend publishing these as Twine games.
