It can make moral, ethical, and philosophical conundrums both accessible and attractive while also providing positive role models and exposing young people to things they might have little experience of, like mental health and LGBT+ issues.

I read once that children who read Harry Potter indicated higher levels of empathy. Is YA fiction a way by which we can mould the next generation to be more open-minded, kind, and inquisitive?

Did you see the (unfortunately short) Lindsay Ellis video essay on YA fiction?

I don't understand why people would consider it a "lesser" form of literature. It's mostly in YA books where most big and expansive fictional worlds and universes are created. I love YA books.

Agreed. I think it's because they're typically less dense, relying less on wordplay itself as an art form and more on the action itself. In my eyes, they simply have different values. You get something different from each.

I've read fully about half a dozen YA & i've only liked two. My gripe is more in their cliches & stereotypes, it's one of the most varied genres out there which I appreciate & has some killer writing potential.
