Did anyone else with a religious upbringing get constantly pummelled with "you're a sinner, you don't deserve to be loved by God, you're lucky Jesus came to save you or you'd go to hell" rhetoric? Thinking back, that's pretty messed up and probably has a lot to answer for.

Not because of anything any of us did. Just because we were human. We were worthless regardless of anything we said or did. Oh but also "Jesus thinks you're special". Um...thanks for the crumb, I guess?

Every bible story somehow led back to "you'll never be good enough" and "you're worthless without God's love". Like, geez... No wonder I have issues!

Not exactly religious, but my mum used to be a very strong traditionalist. When I brought my first "date" home... she didn't like them at all. I was very young, not even an adult yet, but she hammered me for it (in front of this person too). It really hurt back then.

Fast forward to now, my mum is a really sweet person and she's apologised to me and I've forgiven her. We're great friends now.
