Did anyone else with a religious upbringing get constantly pummelled with "you're a sinner, you don't deserve to be loved by God, you're lucky Jesus came to save you or you'd go to hell" rhetoric? Thinking back, that's pretty messed up and probably has a lot to answer for.

Every bible story somehow led back to "you'll never be good enough" and "you're worthless without God's love". Like, geez... No wonder I have issues!

That's good! I swear it was all I ever heard. There was also an unspoken competition to see who could work themselves up into a fit/crying mess first to prove their love for God, but we don't talk about that.

Religious (christian) school, but not upbringing. My mom is as much of a sinner as I am
Awkward situations now since she married a christian (who pretty much never goes to church or shows any sign of being one), but he gets upset when my mom calls him out on it
