I don’t think so because it’s an activity that can be used for fun without major damage. Kind of like it’s not unethical to own a water park even if it means it’s likely someone will eventually drown. More unethical to own a cigarette company since those aren’t safe regardless

Furthermore, people aren’t encouraged to drown in water parks — they’re protected from it. But casinos, for example, will take strategic measures to maximise how much money you spend and how long you stay, which could be consider to be nurturing the seeds of addiction

Perhaps, and those procedures they take to increase the addictive qualities could move them into unethical territory, but simply owning a gambling business does not necessarily mean you employ any or all of those. It’s a matter of specifics I think. Theoretically a gambling...

Adrenaline rushes can also be addictive, which water parks provide, and ultimately the goal for any entertainment business is to take more of your money than they spend. So “the House always wins” isn’t really any different than any other entertainment. You can have fun ...

Second question: do you think it's as likely that people will become addicted to water parks as to gambling?

Probably not water parks, but I could see a business like collectible cards/toys/etc causing as much harm with people that fail to budget well

I'd be interested to see if that's reflected in figures detailing measurable known impact. I'd be inclined to assume it's more prevalent in certain industries, but that could just be that I don't hear about the others.

Yea, I don’t know figures, but would be interesting. Also, where do you draw the line. Is a business unethical if it hurts even one person, or is there a certain limit. If gambling does more damage but the others still do some are they all unethical? Just gambling? Is it more ...
