A question sort-of related to my story today: I’m having a baby in a few weeks. My OB is in-network. My hospital is in-network. But I’m not sure about the anesthesiologist — largely because I don’t know who he or she will be! How can do I avoid a surprise bill?

Easy solution here, ladies: natural childbirth! (Says idiot man.)

This has actually come up in my responses more than one would hope….

Oh great. Next headline: Woman refuses emergency C-section for fear of surprise bills

Another potential issue - I have heard about people not choosing their pediatrician in advance for doing the newborn exam, and then the doctor the hospital chooses will be out-of-network. Sometimes it also happens with emergency c-sections. Agh!
-
And then there's the occurrences of in-network hospitals with out-of-network NICU.

I am actually trying to look into this specific issue! Less for me (hopefully) and more for a story. If you have more info on it I would love to chat
