A fair comparison, I knew a vet who talked about how terrible pet insurance was and how her clients were always pissed off about the cost of procedures as a result.

It may have improved somewhat in recent years. I know one satisfied customer, and I gather @emma_sandoe may be a semi-satisfied 2nd. Policygenius has a good comparison tool.

yes, me. got pretty good coverage for the knee operation, but it doesn't pay much for more routine stuff (which it's supposed to cover). I should probably switch to catastrophic.

What's the AV on pet coverage? I've assumed not high. My friend said many said the price of their own x-rays was cheaper than their pets'. A good example of a few pricing problems!

FWIW (I need to update my story on this) I’ve been very disappointed with pet insurance since I purchased it. My plan denied every claim I submitted as a pre-existing condition, with some flimsy arguments about health care my dog had in his one year uninsured.

Anyway, this is the story I wrote a few years ago! I’ve just returned back to my original thinking about it being a rip-off that I had before all my reporting :)https://www.vox.com/2015/8/10/9123013/dogs-insurance-should-i-buy …

We have pet insurance through work, but I recall it wasn't worth it. My cats are now 9 so there would probably be a lot of denials for pre-X. But their annual blood tests are now $250 each. So maybe it's worth it? Thoughts?

That's funny - I just saw pet insurance on a list of "voluntary" employer benefits. https://www.benefitnews.com/news/voluntary-enrollment-rates-rise-higher-than-predicted …pic.twitter.com/UpghTCqoMa

I hope I didn’t lead you astray! I think they might be great if you have a brand new dog, but it hasn’t worked out for my dog who had handful of bills before buying. Still holding out for a ban on dog pre-ex in Bo-bamacare ;)
