I’ll use this data for a year long project on health care billing. We’ll bring transparency to one corner of American health care. (9/11)
Thank you, thank you, thank you so much in advance! So thrilled to see where this story goes (10/11)

why only ER facility fees? I get charged facility fees every single time I see my doctors because their offices are inside the hospital.
Also curious not to see @RosenthalHealth in this piece, since she basically wrote a whole book about this like five months ago.
I don't want to hear one more "Health Care free market" argument while practices like this are tolerated
But the corporations r making the regulations via cronyism. Corporations dont fear gov regulation, they fear open competition. Don't agree?
Regulations FOLLOW bad acts, until corps get enough money to buy legislation, then regs are used to limit competition, no longer capitalism
So the solution is to continue to allow them to protect themselves? IMO best punishment for bad acts is loss of customers/bankruptcy.
When did I ever suggest that bad actor should be allowed to continue? Universal healthcare! there can never be a free market in healthcare
Oh I see. Agree to disagree. In the long run I think that's worse for the poor. Would hate to see poor have DMV-like healthcare in 100 years
Look at the modern world, many examples where it works very well around, claims to the contrary are propaganda, Defending profit over people
Not propaganda. Just a well-intentioned opinion like yours.
Son broke back.1 ER bill 15k who did some tests & sent him to trauma center which cost 50k! Total bill 4 broken back $250k! Stay of 2 days.
I'll dig up my last ER bill from a dislocated kneecap; I recall very expensive latex gloves itemized on my charges
Fabulous idea. These numbers are entirely made up, the pricing system is so broken. Look forward to your analysis.
My son was in ER for 15h due to pneumonia. Bill to insurance was $30K. Most outrageous thing I've ever seen in my life.
i got one this year for $18k for a panic attack with CT scan, i think i still have the paper copy...
This is amazing! What's the best way to stay updated on the project? Is there, or will there be, an email list? RSS feed? Thanks!
