I was recently sent a bill for a 3-year-old’s MRI. The procedure cost $25,000.https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2017/10/16/16357790/health-care-prices-problem …

This is phrased as sympathetically as possible but it's still not very sympathetic. Why would you do this and not ask about the price?pic.twitter.com/3ZmUmFxU4z

I can't find the article now, but the NYTimes detailed how many hospitals can't/won't quote cost of procedures, say too many variables.

Can anyone think of another industry where we only find out how much a service costs after the fact? Even people with insurance are helpless

Probably because it's much easier to just raise prices on customers that need your service in order not to die, than negotiate /w supplier

When I was 18, I had to have a number of MRI's and CT's. A number. Maybe upwards of 10. It didn't cost me or my family a dime. Not. A. Dime.

Sooner or later (well, it's already MUCH later) the debate will pivot away from lefties blaming insurers and righties aghast at rationing.

Might be 1 factor. Most diagnostic service providers as well as doctors are also not big corporations. It's a consumer driven marketplace
