The focus here is on the lack of 0 insurer counties, but the large amount of single insurer counties should be almost as troubling.

In fact by color coding the 0 and 1 insurer counties qualitatively different from the rest I think the graphic is misleadingly optimistic.

Honestly, this looks like more of a problem with Nevada than with the ACA

How about a population density map to go along side...?
-
Not a map, but for Nevada: http://www.us-places.com/Nevada/population-by-County.htm … .
-
Makes the point. I've driven through most of that yellow; not much there. They wanted insurance to be driven by consumer market, eh?
-
Yeah, in some of the counties, you'd be lucky to find a doctor, let alone a hospital. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_hospitals_in_Nevada …

The amount of area with only 1 or 2 providers is scary. It is more than trouble and has needed begging and pleading not to have more gaps.

Imagine that. When states accept Medicaid expansion and don't allow non-Essential Benefit confirming plans, they do better.

What is it about New Mexico and Idaho that gives them so many more health insurers over Arizona and Nebraska?

Let's be careful. This is a single variable in a multi-dimensional problem. & shows much of the country w/ only 1 choice. Need more choices.

Is a bar graph (X axis: # of insurers, Y axis: # insured) possible? The map is misleading - area with "0" as a % of map> people with 0

You get pretty close to a full explanation by layering Medicaid expansion https://tinyurl.com/yaf6sdk3 w/ AT&Ts coverage: https://tinyurl.com/ycvwwvto
