        yep. HIPAA standards are much weaker for faxes than for newer technologies. Easier for that reason

        Exactly. There's no need for "security" or "VPNs" or "encryption". You can just fax over phone line.

        It’s not a tech problem. EMRs could do it but don’t have the incentive.

        anything EMR does will require password. Fax doesn't. incentive to use less secure fax

        I think a big reason is that faxed record requests are considered same as mail for purposes of HIPAA.

        I believe our entire hospital system (40 miles from Silicon Valley) still uses fax regularly
