@sarahkliff Some people are wrong. The REAL Midwest=NE, IA, KS, MO, ND, SD, MN, IL. Great Lakes=MI, WI Ohio Valley=IN, OH. Period. -
@sarahkliff Vox's version is the GREATER Midwest map. But the core states? Don't include Great Lakes or Ohio Valley sub-regions... -
@sarahkliff They key is the phrase itself: Mid-West aka 'halfway to the West' Unless the U.S. ends at the Rockies? East of IL doesn't count. -
@_silversmith@sarahkliff Would also depend on *when* the phrase developed, then. -
@Mdalton08@sarahkliff That's part of the problem. When the phrase "Midwest" originally developed, the U.S. effectively ended at the Rockies -
@Mdalton08@sarahkliff Which is why Ohioans think they're in the Midwest. Times change, geography changes. Ohioans have their own valley. -
@Mdalton08@sarahkliff And again, if we're talking "Greater Midwest" then yes - all of those. But if we're talking just "Midwest"? Then no. -
@_silversmith@sarahkliff I think what we are talking about is, "Midwest" = yes. "midwest" = no. - 3 more replies
