I dunno...My sense is there are a lot of sites that incentivize writers based on traffic.

Yeah it's not really a thing. It's like saying plaintiff's attorneys are ambulance chasers. Like, that happens, but it's a misrepresentation of the plaintiff's bar through a cultural stereotype. (And actually it's probably closer to the truth than the journalists+clicks thing)
