When I was in law school we always referred to "two-party consent states," but it looks like the preferred nomenclature these days is "all-party"?

I've never understood why people called it two-party when it clearly meant all-party.

I think it is because at the time those all party statutes were passed, it was pretty rare for there to be any more than two people on the phone call.

But similar rules generally apply to audio recording (e.g., in rooms with hidden microphones), where > 2 parties has always been common.

I guess the conclusion here is that I shouldn't write "two-party" even though I personally believe it's more recognizable
