I don't look at social media on the weekends because healthy life balance etc, so the only way I knew people were reading the essay that went on this Saturday were the dozens of men who decided to email me on a weekend with this https://twitter.com/JaimesEMbre/status/990373848204873728 …

this one is dedicated to all the men I know who "quit" social media or even cellphones, but can still be reached through their female partners, who still have both

It’s hard to delete Facebook but not too hard to go down from 50 minutes a day to 5-10 minutes a day
-
yeah, I recently started doing a Marie Kondo thing where I just unfollow anyone whose post does not bring me joy and it has helped
-
Yeah I unfollow most ‘friends’ on Facebook

That bit about phone numbers got me thinking; why isn't there an ISO-standard for internet profiles and contact information? Tech company libertarianism, obviously, but it's interesting idea, albeit potentially dangerous if it disallows anonymity.

Diaspora sites can export and import contacts, if you're interested.

Terrific essay, very thought provoking! Love some of your thought around intentionality. It’s something i’ve been thinking about, as well as many of my colleagues.

When I left Facebook, I found it to be more like breaking a habit. I am now more than 5 years Facebook sober.

Excellent article. I left FB a year ago and have also migrated to messaging services. I feel like my relationships have grown fewer but deeper because of it.

It was easy for me to quit Facecrack in 2011, but harder than smoking which I quit the same day; the peer pressure was the worst I'd ever experienced.

Why should I have to use Facebook if I can delegate someone to share me his or her account if ever needed, and /or taking care of my own interests without sacrificing my own
and
?
Besides having http://Facebook.com at my hosts file +NoScript & DNT, that's what I do.

If more people were aware that the reason why sharing Facebook profiles is explicitly forbidden is because having multiple people's personal data and activity on a single account won't allow linking a single person with their own personal data/activ. Not *personal* data anymore.

I decided I'm not logging on FB one day I guess back in November. well I have logged on twice and caught myself for one, wanting to post something and then I noticed I was getting irritated no one really acknowledged my absence. there it is, fb at work. I'm self aware enough to

stop and catch myself from falling for it's pleasure reward part of the brain. I did however get over 100 likes for my business I made up and told no one about. go figure lol, I have a customer base established already maybe i need to actually start it up. Or not
