Sudden question: does Plattsburgh, NY banning cryptocurrency mining (http://www.businessinsider.com/plattsburgh-new-york-cryptocurrency-mining-ban-2018-3 …) have First Amendment implications? After all, encryption is speech, right?

Town had a sweet deal on electricity which is what attracted the crypto miners. Easy solution, increase their electric rates to parity with US average and crypto miners will go away. Use the profits to reduce tax burden. Banning the miners is lazy
-
That's incredibly depressing. "A good thing existed, so people took advantage of it, ruining it for everyone! If there were no good things, that wouldn't happen."
-
They could cap the amount of cheap electricity you’re allowed to buy based on size of household/number of employees. That way they can still give it to residents and attract employers.
-
Yeah, and that was the second article I posted, where utilities want to jack up rates for the highest-energy users especially if it's not consistent with square footage.
-
Funny how towns are so enthusiastic about landing a power hungry, lights out, 1.5 FTE Google/Amazon/... data center but cryptocurrency miners are evil incarnate

How is the statute worded? Do the prohibit other exhaustive search algorithms?

Also would like to see them become the first city in the US to ban bubble sort.
