maybe the Bay Area should abandon this whole “make building new houses illegal” experiment? Possibly still too early to tell.

there's a bill proposed at the state level that would bring a lot more housing (and affordable housing) to SF and peninsula townshttps://slate.com/business/2018/01/california-bill-sb827-residential-zoning-transit-awesome.html …

#2 isn't true. People are organizing and advocating for more housing (of all types, including affordable by design and by subsidy / public ownership). City is funding and launching more programs, despite aggressive (not passive) opposition from entrenched interests.

Yeah, the evasions folks deploy to hide that homeowners/landlords want to keep land prices high and/or don't want poor people moving in. Historically significant laundromats, saying supply/demand doesn't apply to housing, arguing over shadows of 100% affordable buildings

@MikeIsaac Visited SF for the first time earlier this month, and was (naively) expected a lovely scenic bayside city crawling with moneyed techies. But it felt a lot grimier and more dystopian than NYC. - 2 réponses de plus

I used to like SF. Last time I was there I decided I will never leave the Boston area. We have our flaws. Lots of them. But ... SF really does seem to be collapsing into something really terrifying. All $100 t-shirts and squalor.

It helps to get away from Market St. But you’re right that things don’t exactly seem to be improving.

Not proud. Born there, lived there twice over 15 of my years, moved out in 2014, haven’t missed it since.

SF is NIMBY'ist place in the country (and I've been here most of 29 yrs) - even DC, my 12 yrs before SF, was local level more accepting of doing all kinds of things to move housing development forward - I did a Summer w/ NatHousRehabAssoc on Sec8 plans, Barry ran on it 1st term
