I think, weirdly, the fact that there was a lot of focus on reclaiming femininity – which we still have disdain for! – means people don't see it as work that was as "real" as fighting for the right to do masculine things.

I remember being in college and listening to Debbie Stoller talk about wanting to reclaim crafting and housework and feminine labors as valuable work, noting that they'd been dismissed as lame largely because they'd historically been coded as feminine.

To me that was a pretty powerful statement, but I think that there's this still this perception that "It's okay to like knitting!" is somehow lame and not actually taking a firm stand for women.
