People who keep touting smart contracts as "simplifying contracts" don't understand that litigating contracts is expensive because of human interpretation, not because someone forgot to write something down and get it notarized
-
-
Wow, good rant until the end. Blockchain is indeed cumbersome and inefficient for nearly all use cases. Except one: decentralized, uncensorable, SOUND MONEY. Then you conflate smart contracts with bitcoin?
Bitcoin doesn't support smart contracts. -
The problem with the "SOUND MONEY" argument is that Bitcoin is less sound than pretty much every currency in the world.
-
The maximum supply of Bitcoin is fixed and predictable. Every other currency gets inflated by its issuer.
-
Bitcoin has been undergoing massive deflation for most of its existence. Not very sound.
-
You mean inflation. 12.5 new coins get mined every 10 minutes, but the rate is predictable and decreases by half every 4 years. The only potential deflation is from lost/destroyed coins.
-
No, I mean deflation. E.g., the Bitcoin price of goods has fallen by a factor of ~14 over the last year.
-
That’s not deflation according to the Austrian school. Also nobody who invested in Bitcoin is complaining about that.
-
The Austrian school is stupid, and of course people treating BTC as an investment rather than a currency aren't complaining about its total failure to function as a currency

I was also channeling what was hopefully obvious sarcasm

-
Yes, I took it that what! Not sure of John’s intention/perception. :) BTW I know Christine Ricks - followed your work for awhile now!
-
Just in case my sarcasm wasn't immediately apparent, I'm increasingly concerned by the Bitcoin faithful and their boundless enthusiasm for tying currencies to a modern gold standard. So yeah, go Sarah.
-
Yes, there is lots to criticize in crypto for sure. I am more bullish on blockchain technology as a protocol rather than coins per se. BTC in particular is not a coin I think very well of - too many scaling problems.

It's too slow. I have to pay per minute and it's expensive. I can't use my phone. I'll never be able to download videos. I can send documents with a fax machine. I can talk to people on the phone. It's only for porn and buying drugs. and that's why I fucking hate the internet

Saved. Looking forward to reminding you, and anyone who follows you, of this prediction 10 years from now. Hope you’re looking forward to joining the esteemed ranks of those like
@paulkrugman, who predicted the Internet was a solution looking for a problem. -
You're not much with the reading comprehension, are you, Matt?
-
And apparently you’re complete shit at creating insults that have anything to do with the comment to which you’re replying. Care to elaborate upon your non-point?
-
It's a pretty simple concept & not an insult, Matt. Have you considered not being so sensitive? I'll break it down some more: The reply that you wrote demonstrates that you did not comprehend the thing that you replied to.
-
You still make no case. Perhaps you have no case to make. Be specific, please, for posterity.
-
Or are you all ad hominem and no rational argument?
