Can't help but think about all the VCs who talk a big game about how much they ~ care ~, but here's a real vision to put your money in
-
#connectedfutures: "The tech is not inherently evil" -- Bad decisions are coming from the top, but it doesn't have to be that way. -
The current UI is designed to push drivers to keep working without stops
-
A coop would be thinking about how to redesign the UI and the structure so drivers can work less for more $
-
Question -- asks if how much of this exploitation is really just people and culture? Like what if Travis Kalanick wasn't Travis Kalanick?
-
Answer is that it's definitely systemic and ideological -- Lyft is riding off the coattails by being less evil doppelgänger.
-
"I used to think working conditions in the taxi industry were bad... but the level of precarity that Uber & Lyft drivers experience..."
-
"... I can only compare it to my experience with the service industry in India."
-
Some are only making enough money to meet the subprime lease for the vehicle from Uber/Lyft.
-
That was an incredible set of presentations. Wow.
