Lmk if I'm missing something here

Obviously don't own a phone to begin with if you're seeking Edward Snowden levels of security lockdown

I just think obfuscation is an underrated strategy for privacy ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I strongly doubt there's any kind of Meitu-specific story here (I have lightswitch apps that send the same data to China)
-
IMEI?
-
(what I want to know at this point is if sending IMEI is typical and whether Meitu is doing it on iOS too)
-
iOS doesn't let you get the IMEI.
@JZdziarski took a look at the iOS version - it makes up a device ID from other hardware IDs

I mean, I'm not really familiar with Meito, but either way conditioning users to accept overreaching permissions is Quite Bad
-
(of course, a lot of Android apps seem to to do that. Not sure how common it is in other ecosystems)
-
the way iOS handles permissions seems obviously superior in this instance
