I'm sure this has already been pointed out but banning trigger warnings isn't free speech, it's a restriction on speech
-
-
But that's not the fault of the students, or of the teachers.
-
The fight over trigger warnings isn't what's breaking down the student-prof relationship, it's just a symptom of the problem
-
It's the

, stupid -
Anyways, there's plenty of professors who understand that content notes/trigger warnings make their teaching better not more restricted
-
At the same time I've never heard a professor say they like it when student councils try to mandate trigger warnings across the campus
-
This debate would not nearly be so toxic if it weren't happening against the higher education $$$$$ problem. It's a sideshow.
-
Now you can cast debt burdened 18 year olds as a bunch of spoiled tyrants when in fact their future is being stolen from them
-
And professors are recast as brave pillars of free speech making a stand when their agency is constantly robbed under the present system
-
Meanwhile, the administration gets to vanish from the picture entirely
-
Anyways, keep practicing that intellectual rigor, UChicago, lol
