Wow this election sure needed a terrorist attack to make everyone feel great about the political future
-
-
Now there's a weird thing going on where terrorist attacks look like domestic terror with extremely tenuous connections to ISIS
-
Namely, the perpetrators claim a connection and ISIS claims credit, but there isn't the same kind of orchestration seen in 9/11
-
In fact the affiliation seems slapped on, if anything.
-
And there's no easy linguistic way to to distinguish these acts from 9/11 because of the eliding of all categories of terror
-
American discourse since 2001 has used "terror" in a particular way. That can't be ignored.https://twitter.com/rev_chas/status/742512846559318016 …
-
Was it wrongheaded and racialized and Islamophobic? Yes. But it happened.
-
And the idea that terror came from abroad was used to start wars. Hard to ignore that the same logic could happen all over again.

the goal isn't so much to push domestic terror under the same lable just to make sure radical religeon is looked at the same.

not following you. Eric Rudolph, family planning bombings and murders -- domestic terror, yes? But Gitmo for them, no.

yeah it's weird given how the term in US is used to invoke racialized fears in support of harsher law enforcement and whatever
