We're back! Day 7 of Oracle v. Google begins
-
-
Alsup: Not that I have anything against Vanderbilt. I love Vanderbilt.
-
Jury is now seated.
-
Alsup: How many of you are on your second notepad? Juror hands go up. Alsup: Usually they only use five or six pages. So good for you.
-
The jurors are being extremely careful, if this case goes sideways it won't be because someone didn't try hard enough
-
We're talking about middleware frameworks now.
-
In a way, I've learned a lot about software during this trial. Namely, the extent to which a lawyer can confuse me about software
-
(Reminder: We're in the middle of cross-examining an Oracle expert witness, so we're deep in the technical weeds)
-
Google (Purcell): I think I took Mr. Van Nest's water, not mine. Thankfully I figured it out early. *swaps out water bottle*
-
Passes the witness. On to redirect. Clarifying questions about the Keystone consulting firm.
-
Yesterday Google threw shade on DS for using Keystone consultants to run builds, make graphs, etc.
-
TBH it just sounded like he was using Keystone consultants as though they were undergrad research assistants? You know what I mean?
-
Oracle: Would you explain Moore's Law for the jury?
-
DS explains. It's not hard, you guys.
-
This is what Moore's Law is going to:https://twitter.com/xor/status/732950677509394432 …
-
Redirect over. Recross. We're back to quibbling over the nature of consulting work
-
Google: Keystone brought YOU in, is that not right? I think Google is implying that Keystone laundered evidence thru him?
-
DS answers coolly. Witness is excused. DS is rolling on out. Alsup now describing what jury delibs will be like.
-
Monday will be closing args, jury can decide on schedule of deliberations.
-
I count 6 ppl at Google table, 8 ppl at Oracle. What say you,
@Ross_Todd?https://twitter.com/gesmer/status/732951272060518400 … -
(I do not know if all of them are counsel, I am having a hard time tracking each person by sight)
@gesmer@Ross_Todd -
We're on to the next witness.https://twitter.com/xor/status/732952218106650626 …
-
I only ever see the lawyers from the back so I'm basically tracking them by degree of relative baldness, which is a deeply flawed system
-
We were just looking at a slide that illustrates the "Java ecosystem"—basically a confusing swirl of lots of logos
-
Someone in the back bench just dropped a monster stack of papers everywhere.
-
Very loud. Oracle is continuing like nothing happened.
-
Currently looking at a 2009 slide says "Java Landscape Today" with stats about ubiquity of Java.
-
Sun worked with, like, everyone. Civjan: We worked with Toyota, we worked with BMW.
-
Wait, there's Java in cars?
-
Well, that doesn't make me feel very good.
-
Now asking question about Asian markets for licensing.
