Reinhold saying that Java ME (Micro Edition, for flip phones) APIs contain same structure, sequence, and organization as SE.
-
-
On the one hand: This protects commercial business models.
-
On the other hand: The commercial business model, which insists Java the *language* is free, is based in *ubiquity.*
-
Yet it refuses to let the environment compete in a free market of forked environments. Ubiquity without proof of efficiency.
-
It's circular protectionism.
-
Anyways Reinhold is now describing the creation process for APIs, collaborating with colleagues, getting together with whiteboards...
-
It's not an easy process.
-
Reinhold: Names are certainly a creative part [of the API design process].
-
Reinhold: ...The shorter the name, the nicer it looks, but there are fewer short names than long names.
-
Reinhold says it's "laughably simple" to refer to the APIs as "labels."
-
Not sure how well this plays for Oracle; on the one hand it throws doubt on previous testimony,
-
but otoh jury might resent attempt to throw doubt on testimony they actually understood lol
-
Apparently just the other day, Reinhold had to redo his analysis in this presentation because Astrachan pointed out 4 methods were missing.
-
Reinhold says 170 lines of declaring code are necessary to use the Java programming language.
-
Reinhold says Google only needed to copy these 170 lines, not all 37 API packages.
-
We're now on to Google's cross of Reinhold.
-
Google: You've had dozens of meetings with Oracle's lawyers to discuss this case, right? not sure where this is going
-
I think he's just establishing that Reinhold worked closely (according to Google) with Oracle's paid witnesses.
-
Google: You've participated in coaching Oracle witnesses in the middle of having their depositions taking, yes? Oracle: Objection.
-
Overruled. Reinhold acknowledges he did this once. IT'S THE DONALD SMITH DEPOSITION
-
Recap: An Oracle representative (deposed as representing the corporation) gave a DISASTER depohttps://twitter.com/sarahjeong/status/731170870345891840 …
-
In between his disaster statement and the afternoon backpedaling, he and his lawyers dialed up Reinhold as an emergency call
-
I don't know if jury put this together but I'm like whooooooooooooa
-
I mean, if you look at the slightly confusing variances across Google witnesses,
-
you CAN read it as that Google is accurately representing a variety of (mostly similar) views.
-
And then this cross exam of Reinhold makes Oracle testimony look like it's a coordinated party line.
-
I can't say whether this is a fair characterization, but Google is teasing it out of the trial as it's happened thus far.
-
I gotta say, Purcell (Google) is doing a great job at cross. Sounds really confident with all the technical details.
-
Google: Java ME wouldn't pass the compatibility with Java SE, is that correct? Reinhold: Correct. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH
