Sentence range is probation to 25 years.

Keys told me that he intends to appeal. Attorneys are optimistic about the appealable issues in this case (damage & loss, for CFAA nerds)

Keys also told me that this prosecution was a message to journalists who cover groups that the government doesn't agree with.

He says that months after the first story he wrote about Anonymous, the FBI reached out to him and asked to scan his computer. He said no.

Prosecutor told me that 25 years was not at stake, based on sentencing guidelines. (25 yrs is statutory maximum)

Prosecutor: "This is not the crime of the century," but nonetheless Keys should not get away with what he did to Tribune Company

He wouldn't say what sentence the government would seek but seemed to imply it would be much lower than 25 years

When asked about claims that the prosecution was politically motivated, he replied, "I don't know what Keys's political beliefs are."
