@sarahjeong 'Gross' isn't really in my active vocabulary, but the utilitarian win is to make that comparison as often as possible.

@sarahjeong I.e. your approach won't have an effect on someone who'd choose to go after someone like Foy; perhaps comparing to Sacco will. -
@topynate You fail to grasp who actually went after Foy (and got her literally jailed) and who is making that comparison, then. -
@topynate "It sucks that Sacco, a PR pro, lost her job for making a public racist remark, ergo it must suck to put Foy in jail" -
@topynate Literally no one is going to think that. Because it is an absurd comparison. -
@topynate The only people who think this is a reasonable comparison are people who already consider Sacco a paradigm of online harassment, -
@topynate because they implicitly believe that the most scary thing to happen online is to be called racist when you least expect it.

@mmasnick one lost her job, the other got literally arrested? -
@mmasnick One hides a racist comment behind "I was joking," the other made a remark of a political nature bordering on violent -
@sarahjeong at least according to the nymag article, sounds like both were making (bad) jokes

@sarahjeong this the ny mag piece? -
@sarahjeong I don't know a lot of the Sacco details tbh - why do you think it's a bad comparison?
