Kids eventually stopped yelling "yuck" when I had rice and seaweed for lunch. Now toasted seaweed is a low carb snack at Trader Joe's.
-
@sarahjeong I got loud "eeeeewws" w/ a thermos-packed lunch. That lunch: chicken nuggets. It's targeted at the food, but it's not the food. -
@SherwinPK ok but wait your parents packed you chicken nuggets? -
@sarahjeong a few times. They were big on assimilation. Also, they themselves were kids of immigrants (to the Philippines). Immigraception. -
@SherwinPK It's funny what ends up resisting assimilation. Like my parents just could not give up kimchi—lots of Koreans just can't. -
@SherwinPK But so much else succumbs to assimilation!
