@sarahjeong I'd say to some extent Stack Exchange has succeeded at that: Mods & high-rep community members are "mini-CM"… -
@sarahjeong …counterpoint: The actual CM team has a harder job reigning things in when that part of the community goes off the rails.

@sarahjeong Moderation, yes. But management? i don't think so. Someone needs to hold the bag.Merci. Twitter en tiendra compte pour améliorer votre fil. SupprimerSupprimer

@sarahjeong re distributing labor… moderation is politics. and wrangling disparate ppl towards the 1 goal is an interesting challenge. -
@sarahjeong I mentioned /r/showerbeer as one of my favorite online communities at#srccon last week -
@sarahjeong It has clear rules (submissions must be a selfie, must contain beer, must be in shower, label must be visible) -
@sarahjeong because of clarity it's really easy to tell what is in bounds vs out, so anybody can tell whether a submission follow the rules -
@sarahjeong (and ultimately Reddit is a huge experiment in distributed moderation) -
@sarahjeong But /r/showerbeer is a niche community, and policing more complicated behavior is… more complicated. -
@sarahjeong But some folks still do it. Ta Nahisi Coates is still my rhetorical crush because he's so good at getting past bullshit. -
@sarahjeong but how do you instill someone w/ Coates's acumen? idk. seems harder to teach to others.

@sarahjeong one way of doing it is allowing power users to take ownership of a group within communities but still need someone to 'manage'Merci. Twitter en tiendra compte pour améliorer votre fil. SupprimerSupprimer

@sarahjeong I feel it's moot unless we can convince programmers that management is of equal (greater?) importance than the project itself -
@sarahjeong Programmers are clearly not taking lessons from projects that stagnated/failed due to a lack of focus on management -
@sarahjeong So perhaps we need a project succeeding indisputably through management as proof (as a counter to success because 'genius'). -
@sarahjeong a large project led by managers with new programmers (because new programmers are more open & proof management skills matter)
