It’s a thoughtlessly absolutist application of a general rule without taking into consideration why the rule is there and how it works.

As many have pointed out, Leelah Alcorn’s note does not glorify suicide or talk about methods of suicide. It’s an accounting.

Without the note she’d continue to be misgendered in the media. Without it, her parents would continue to pretend it wasn’t suicide.

All Leelah wanted was for the truth of her identity to be acknowledged and accepted. It was unspeakably cruel to suppress the truth then,
